Stage 5

The final stage crosses farmland and quiet lanes toward Carlisle and the Scottish border country. Gentle walking compared with the middle days - a softer finish after the fells of the south.

Carlisle has a cathedral, a castle, and full transport links on the West Coast Main Line. A practical end point with enough to celebrate a completed Cumbria Way before heading home.
